I coordinate the Community Class at the Civic Library with Lisa Cliff

Hi. I am Daryl Evans. I coordinate the Community Class at the Civic Library with Lisa Cliff. I come from a secondary teaching background and did my TESOL training in 2005. I thoroughly enjoy teaching English. Since my Teach International training, I have worked for short periods in a few schools in Hanoi, but mainly for KOTO, an Australian charity in Hanoi, Vietnam. KOTO, set up by Jimmy Pham, provides training for street kids and disadvantaged youth in the hospitality industry. It has a training school and operates a restaurant. I find it extremely rewarding work. I have taught English, developed curriculum in Health and Personal Development, and provided professional support and resources for staff.

Students attending the Community Class in Canberra come from extremely diverse backgrounds. Class interactions are enriched by this mix of different cultures. I enjoy talking to members of the class and have learnt from them so much about life in other countries.

The teachers do an excellent job with lots of interesting activities and the many resources of the Civic Library are available for the class. The teachers are keen to assist students with their English language skills. They also make use of this experience to prepare for the excitement of working in some exotic places around the world. I know this opportunity to coordinate the class allows me to enhance my skills for my next adventure in Vietnam or somewhere else in the world.
